What is the DTV for muaythai?

Training is only one part of a DTV application. The Thai mission decides which course evidence it accepts.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) includes a Thai soft-power activity route for people attending activities such as muaythai training. It is distinct from the workcation route. Applicants need credible evidence of the activity they will attend, and the relevant Thai mission decides what evidence it accepts.

The DTV is valid for five years and permits multiple entries. Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days. You may request one extension for up to another 180 days from Thai immigration, subject to its approval. Visa validity is not permission to stay continuously for five years.

Apply from outside Thailand

Apply while outside Thailand, in a country where you are a national or permanent resident, using the responsible Thai mission’s e-Visa or specified process.

Course or activity confirmation must fit the mission’s current rules. A casual class booking on this site is a separate product.

DTV muaythai requirements and documents

You must apply in a country where you are a national or permanent resident. This is a planning checklist; the mission handling your case decides the acceptable evidence and exact document format.

Identity and application country

  • Valid passport and recent photograph in the mission’s required format.
  • Evidence that you are a national or permanent resident of the country where you submit the application; confirm acceptable proof with that Thai mission.
  • Criminal record clearance from your country of nationality or the country where you apply.

Financial evidence

  • Evidence of funds equivalent to at least THB 500,000.
  • Bank statement period, currency, ownership and account evidence as specified by the mission.

  • Confirmation of enrollment or attendance from a suitable training provider.
  • Course dates, training schedule and venue details when requested.
  • Additional provider or Sports Authority of Thailand documents if your mission requires them.

You may seek entry again while the visa is valid; each entry remains subject to immigration checks and permission.

Check current extension rules, fees and evidence before applying. DTV does not itself authorize unrelated employment in Thailand; follow your visa conditions and actual training purpose.

Fees and timing

The Thai MFA lists a THB 10,000 DTV visa fee, but missions collect fees in their own currency and may set a different amount. Check the exact fee and payment rules on your mission’s site before filing.

DTV and muaythai: answers before you apply

Can I get a DTV by booking one muaythai class?

A single drop-in booking does not establish eligibility. Missions ask for evidence of a qualifying activity or training arrangement, and their document requirements differ. We review a proposed plan before suggesting evidence.

Can my training involve more than one gym?

Next muaythai can coordinate a plan and available documents through multiple partner gyms. No official source guarantees that combined evidence will be accepted. We check your mission’s requirements, including any named gym certification, before proposing this.

Does a five-year DTV let me stay five years without leaving?

No. Five years is the visa validity. The usual permitted stay is up to 180 days per entry, with a possible immigration extension of up to another 180 days for that entry.

Can I apply while already in Thailand?

You must be outside Thailand when submitting a DTV application. From 31 August 2026, the application country must also be one where you are a national or permanent resident.

Can I apply while visiting a third country?

Not if you are neither a national nor a permanent resident there. The rule effective 31 August 2026 applies to DTV applicants worldwide. Ask the responsible Thai mission what proof of permanent residence it accepts.

Do I need THB 500,000 in savings?

The MFA DTV materials set a THB 500,000 financial-evidence threshold. Missions decide the accepted account evidence, statement period and currency conversion.

Is a police clearance now required?

Yes. The 31 August 2026 guidance requires a criminal record clearance from your country of nationality or the country where you apply. Confirm the certificate format and validity period with that Thai mission.

Can my family apply with me?

The DTV provides a category for a spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder. Each family member needs a separate application and relationship evidence under the mission’s rules.
